Thousands of car enthusiasts turned out beginning early Sunday, June 16, for the 43rd annual Father’s Day Car Show at the California Oaks Sports Park in Murrieta.
The show, scheduled from 6:30 to 2 p.m., was sponsored by the City of Murrieta and featured about 300 pre-1980s and specialty cars spread out across the lawn at the park.
The car show, first held in 1971 in Temecula, has been an annual event in Murrieta since relocating to the city in 1997 and has become a favorite way for many families to start their Father’s Day celebration.
In terms of longevity among southwest Riverside County events the car show ranks well ahead of the Temecula Valley Balloon & Wine Festival, which just turned 30, and behind the Murrieta Fire Department BBQ, which was held for the 66th time in April.
